Your MOTIF ES must have 512MB of compatible DIMM sample RAM installed. This memory is volatile, so every power-off erases the loaded sounds.
512MB of DIMM Sample RAM Is Mandatory
The MOTIF ES cannot load these sampled instruments from its factory memory alone. Compatible DIMM sample RAM must already be physically installed inside the keyboard.
Confirm 512MB Installed
Open the MOTIF ES sample-memory information screen and confirm that the keyboard recognizes 512.0MB of sample memory.
Do not rely only on what a previous owner or seller claimed was installed. Verify the memory directly on the keyboard.
Reload the Sampled Sounds
MOTIF ES DIMM memory is volatile. It does not retain loaded samples after the keyboard is turned off.
Keep the required files available and allow enough time to reload before a service, rehearsal, gig or event.

512MB DIMM Sample RAM
Compatible installed DIMM memory is mandatory. The sample-memory screen must recognize the installed capacity.

Version 1.08 is required to load the PowerGrand and S700 Grand content.
Use Only a 1GB or 2GB USB Drive
The MOTIF ES uses USB 1.1 and FAT16-era storage. The published compatibility guidance recommends a one-gigabyte or two-gigabyte USB drive.

Powering Down Erases Every Loaded Sample
The expandable DIMM sample RAM in the MOTIF ES is volatile memory. Once the keyboard is powered down—or experiences any power cycle—all sampled sounds loaded into DIMM memory are lost.
This does not mean the purchased files are deleted from your USB drive or computer. It means the keyboard’s working sample memory becomes empty and must be loaded again.

The primary digital-piano sounds are not built from only one static sample. Multiple layers respond across the keyboard’s velocity range.
These sounds can serve as the center of a setup or be combined with the MOTIF ES factory strings, pads, basses and brass to create custom layers without a computer, laptop, phone or tablet.
Legacy Hardware Preparation
Firmware and USB Compatibility Matter
The MOTIF ES comes from an earlier storage generation. Use the specified firmware and media rather than a modern high-capacity USB drive.
MOTIF ES Version 1.08
Firmware Version 1.08 is required to load the PowerGrand and S700 Grand content.
Yamaha’s official updater supports the MOTIF ES6, ES7 and ES8. Yamaha recommends backing up important User Voices and Performance data before updating.
The official updater itself uses an 8MB–128MB SmartMedia card and SmartMedia writer, not the USB drive used for loading this sound library.

The MOTIF ES USB port follows the older USB 1.1 standard and uses FAT16-era storage compatibility.
The published product guidance states that one-gigabyte or two-gigabyte USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 drives have produced the best reported results.
Do not assume a modern 32GB, 64GB or larger flash drive will work reliably with this legacy keyboard. A detailed USB compatibility document is included with the product.

This library was developed primarily for Yamaha MONTAGE and MODX. FMJ-Software tools were used to port the library to the Yamaha MOTIF ES format.
Wise Sound does not own a MOTIF ES and therefore cannot provide detailed technical support concerning MOTIF ES hardware beyond the supplied product, compatibility and loading instructions.

Will this work without 512MB of DIMM memory?
No. The MOTIF ES must recognize 512MB of compatible installed DIMM sample RAM before this complete library can be loaded.
What happens when I turn the MOTIF ES off?
All samples loaded into the volatile DIMM memory are erased. The library must be loaded again after the keyboard is powered back on.
Does power-off delete my purchased download?
No. Your original files remain on your computer and storage media. Only the samples temporarily loaded into the keyboard’s DIMM working memory are erased.
Why is Firmware Version 1.08 required?
Version 1.08 is required to load the PowerGrand and S700 Grand content. The official Yamaha updater is linked on this page.
Can I use a modern 32GB or 64GB USB drive?
The published requirement says to use only a 1GB or 2GB USB drive. The MOTIF ES uses USB 1.1 and FAT16-era storage compatibility.
Are loading instructions included?

Can Wise Sound troubleshoot my MOTIF ES hardware?
